A coalition of Canadian musicians have come out against filesharing lawsuits and imbalanced copyright laws. The
Canadian Music Creators Coalition includes the Barenaked Ladies, Avril Lavigne, Sarah McLachlan, Chantal Kreviazuk, Sum 41, Stars, Raine Maida (of Our Lady Peace), Dave Bidini (of the Rheostatics), Billy Talent, John K. Samson (of the Weakerthans), Broken Social Scene, Sloan, Andrew Cash and Bob Wiseman (formerly of Blue Rodeo). The Coalition has issued a
press release and
Policy Paper that identifies three principles that should guide Parliamentarians in copyright reform:
1. Suing Our Fans is Destructive and Hypocritical
2. Digital Locks are Risky and Counterproductive
3. Cultural Policy Should Support Actual Canadian Artists
