Bill introduced to clarify CRTC powers re: consumer telecom body
| June 23, 2008
Conservative Senator Donald Oliver has submitted a bill seeking to amend the Telecommunications Act to give the Commissioner for Complaints for Telecommunications Services (CCTS) statutory authority to undertake its mandate. Among other things, Bill S-242 gives the CCTS the power to award damages beyond limits prescribed in consumer service agreements. This Bill would resolve issues raised by telcos about the CRTC's jurisdiction to order their participation in the CCTS.
