| June 03, 2008

Yesterday, Liberal MP David McGuinty introduced Bill C-555, which called on the CRTC to study how it may compel telecommunications companies to communicate its network practices to consumers, specifically “network management practices that reduce advertised speeds or interfere with the ability of consumers to access, use, send, receive, or offer lawful content, applications or services over broadband networks.”The report would examine so-called “traffic shaping” network management solutions, and would conclude on whether the CRTC's current regulatory powers are sufficient to deal with anti-competitive uses of the technology.
