Public outcry causes delay in Copyright Bill

| December 11, 2007

An unprecedented public outcry by concerned Canadians against what was widely rumoured to be US-style copyright bill pandering to corporate interests appears to have given Canada's Industry Minister cause to delay introduction of the expected bill in Parliament.  As of today, almost 15,000 individuals had signed up to a Facebook group called "Fair Copyright for Canada", websites decrying the government's approach have surfaced, and some concerned citizens expressed their concerns directly ot the Minister at his constituency open house last weekend.
