Documentary Filmmakers Call for Balanced Copyright

| December 05, 2006
The Documentary Organisation of Canada, the Canada\'s leading representative of documentary film and video makers, has released an open letter to the Ministers of Industry and Canadian Heritage, along with a White Paper and DOC Member Survey, calling for amendments to the Copyright Act to address the manner in which current copyright laws hamper the production and distribution of documentary films. The DOC Survey, titled Censorship by Copyright, reports that 82% of documentary filmmakers feel that copyright laws actually discourage them from making documentaries films. The Open Letter, signed by more than 130 prominent documentary filmmakers in Canada, clearly articulates that Canada\'s copyright policies are not working for this proud and important segment of Canada\'s cultural community. - DOC Media Release - Public Letter to the Ministers (English) - DOC White Paper - DOC Member Survey, Censorship by copyright
