Ontario introduces health privacy legislation

The Ontario government has introduced a bill governing the collection, use and disclosure of personal health information in that province. The Health Information Protection Act, 2003 is designed to protect the privacy of individuals, and the confidentiality and security of personal health information in the health sector in a manner that facilitates the effective provision of health care. It establishes new rules applicable to individuals and organizations who collect health information.
